Choosing the right baking tin

Check the recipe’s tin shape, dimensions and depth before mixing. A wider tin makes a shallower layer; a smaller tin may overflow.

Compare like with like

For tins of the same shape and depth, compare the surface areas to estimate an ingredient scaling factor. Our tin converter can help with round or square tins.

Watch the bake

Check doneness using the recipe’s visual clues. Do not simply multiply the baking time. Recipes that rely on a particular batter depth need extra care.
